The default will be to continue to use phone numbers, but you can now disable using phone numbers from the Event Settings

Ivan Pardo Can there be a globally enforced or at least global default setting for this? Maybe under Host Tools in the Root Organization settings?
Ivan Pardo
Magnus Pechan: Yes, there's now an option in Settings > Chapture Structure > Root organization that lets you set this default

disagree - you can disable host tools links on events if you’re really worried; the link is very obscure, and no-auth allows for very easy google sheets scraping with IMPORTXML to get RSVP counts when you’re tracking a lot of events.

Genevieve Rand all it takes is one person sharing the link with the wrong person to put a lot of people at risk. Convenience is not a good reason to sacrifice security of member data! You could use Solidarity Tech API to do that more securely.

Rice Rodriguez you can turn off the host tools - that makes attendance password protected. my point is that the choice of accessible host tools shouldn’t be taken away because it’s an extremely valuable tool for scaled distributed organizing where lots of volunteers take responsibility for event hosting without knowing how to use the soltech backend.

Genevieve Rand but the alternative I gave was to just not display the phone numbers. I feel like that would still let you do what you want while assuaging my concerns

Rice Rodriguez that would prevent volunteer event hosts from making confirmation calls or being able to contact their attendees during canvasses etc
